WYLD REGIONAL COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT
The council met once this year via Leader phone on Feb. 19, 2009. The members reported on meetings and training activities which have occurred since our last meeting in May 2008. Brian Greene gave a WYLD office report and said that he was going to be the only one attending the Sirsi/Dynix Superconference in April. He is presenting which will help defray some expense.
Our main agenda item was to develop topics/training ideas for the WYLD Annual Meeting in DuBois, June 18th-June 19th, 2009. Discussion followed on the timeline and migration to the Java client and the possibility of making this a major training segment of the annual meeting. The possibility of a half-day morning interactive session with annual meeting attendees, followed by breakout sessions for circulation, cataloging, etc. in the afternoon was discussed in more depth. Region reps presented suggestions and concerns on behalf of their regions. Mary Jayne and Brian will take this information to the strategic planning meeting in Cheyenne of Feb. 20th.
The council is recommending that libraries migrate to the Java client by January, 2010 as Sirsi will stop supporting the C client with the Symphony 3.3 Release (next major software release). The annual training/meeting is the best place to provide Java Client training.
Regional Council members are encouraged to post the minutes of meeting and post training activities on their respective web pages. WYLD TECHNOTE 48 provides directions for posting information on the State Library Website. WYLD members are encouraged to visit their regional web pages to stay in the communication loop—especially personnel new to Wyoming libraries.
