Online Quality CommitteeCoralina Daly requested a new item type for ‘Special Collection’ books that will have a different fine structure. A new item type is needed because of the different fine structure, no other alternative will be useful. A new item type of ‘Special’ was proposed to the committee. Beth will send an e-mail out to poll WYLD members regarding use of this new format. The results will be sent to committee members for final approval.
Discussion ensued and the above was accepted.
A new format for audio books is being used, primarily, by the public libraries and an initial discussion was started. Des stated that the term "playaway" refers to a brand name and not a general description so that the use of this term is not appropriate for an item type. Des suggested using "MP3" as an item type to describe this type of audio book. Discussion will continue at the next committee meeting.
Some libraries are adding books through the McNaughton Company. Some will be leased books and some bought books. Casper College Library will lease the books and will investigate using the existing item type of "leased book". Des pointed out that if the fine structure and loan period are the same then it might make more sense to use "book" as an item type. If someone was searching and limited it to "book" as an item type then none of the leased books would be displayed.
The next meeting of the committee will be in September.
