Online Quality Committee

  1. Call to Order Done.
  2. Roll call: All members were present. Bobbi was the only representative for WYLD. Susan Stanton, the Technical Services Coordinator at Natrona, was a guest.
  3. Introductions Done.
  4. Approve agenda Done.
  5. Approve minutes of the meeting of December 1, 2005 (posted on web site) Done.
  6. OLD BUSINESS:

Carefully worded letter about merging archival records (Susan & Bobbi)

Bobbi and Susan hadn’t gotten a draft finished yet. Before the next meeting, Karling and Susan will draft a letter, with input from Bobbi as needed

  7. NEW BUSINESS:
    1. REVIEW LOCATIONS: Consider reducing the number of “Ask librarian for assistance” instructions at ADMIN, AV-EQUIP, CHECK-DESK, INFO-DESK, LOCK-CASE, MUSIC-LIB, REMOTE, SMBUSCNTR, STORAGE
      • This is an issue of display to patrons versus internal display in Workflows. Since these all display as “Ask librarian for assistance” in the OPAC, one of the questions was whether these could be removed, consolidated into one, or reduced in other ways. Diane from Gillette Campus, Sheridan College, brought this issue up. Carol Brown will talk with her for more information.
    2. GRAPHIC NOVELS (Bobbi): Fruits Basket and Dragon Knights are two examples.
      • Bobbi surveyed catalogers about issues with this format: serial or monographic records; inconsistent en try for volume, titles, and authors; and duplicate entries or series.
      • Susan will survey public services staff and schools, and the committee will consider those responses before making any decisions. Possible solutions include using a monographic record, using a serial record, or using either as the library decides
    3. REQUEST TO MASK COLUMN THAT DISPLAYS COPY NUMBER IN WYLDCAT ITEM DISPLAY (Des):

The committee didn’t see any immediate reason to keep this feature visible, so moved unanimously to mask it. If there are problems from this later, we could easily reverse

  8. NEXT MEETING: February 23rd at 11:15 a.m.
