ONLINE QUALITY COMMITTEE REPORT
WYLD ANNUAL MEETING
June 5-6, 2008
Buffalo, Wyoming
The Online Quality Committee met six times by conference call in 2007-2008. Thanks to the WYLD staff who educated and helped us this year. The committee also wishes to thank Libby Harlin, Casper College for her contribution in recording the minutes of the meetings.
The committee thanks those who responded to surveys, asked questions, and comments on proposals for their help with its work this year.
Some of the issues the committee reviewed this year were:
- Design of survey regarding Article Linker
Several options were available for placement on the WYLDCat pages and feedback was needed from libraries regarding their needs.
- Review of Cataloging Skills checklist
The Committee made some changes and the checklist was forwarded to the Training Committee.
- Discussed the coding problems with the foreign language material
A large number of MARC records were discovered to be incorrectly coded due to inaccurate cataloging. The records will have to be manually corrected.
- Update on libraries with over 60 item records on serial records
Committee members contacted libraries in their region that have this occurrence.
- Review of adding links to ebooks for the Oxford Reference database purchased by the academic libraries.
Hold was placed on this project until the rest of the academic libraries acquire proxy servers.
- Update on status of Authority Processing project
The contracts and the project have been approved and the time frame will depend on when the vendor is available. An announcement will be made when the project is ready. It is anticipated that the necessary reindexing would take place over Labor Day weekend.
