The Wyoming Library Leadership Institute began in 2000.

The 2011 institute will be held July 18-20 at the TA Ranch outside of Buffalo.

Is this right for you? You could be new in the field, or you could have an established career. You could work in a school, academic, special or public library. The Institute is the place for you as long as you have the necessary spark to lead the Wyoming libraries of tomorrow!

The Library Leadership Institute exists to provide opportunities for learning, mentoring and developing leadership skills to promote the personal and professional growth of the Wyoming library community.

The institute is a tool for nurturing both degreed and non-degreed individuals in leadership roles. It is not a workshop on becoming a library director or a workshop on library administration.

Lodging, materials and meals will be provided for the 19th and morning of the 20th. Cost to the attendee and/or attendee library will be travel to and from the TA Ranch and lodging at the TA the night of the 18th. Dinner will be provided that evening.

Interested individuals should consider applying if they want to learn more about leadership potential and style.

The application process is competitive. Twelve to 15 will be selected to attend, and those attending are expected to take future committee and leadership responsibilities in the Wyoming Library Association (WLA), WYLD Network, educational committees and other library initiatives.

Individuals associated with all types of libraries (academic, public, school and special) are invited to apply. Trustees, support staff, paraprofessionals, library media specialists and librarians are eligible (trustees must have at least one year remaining in the term of his or her appointment at the time the institute is held). Your leadership role in the Wyoming library community is not based on job title.

We have been very lucky to have trainers from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Professional Training, and Jep Enck of Enck Resources, Fort Collins, Colorado, be part of the institute since the beginning. They bring expertise and approachability.
