Personnel-ly Speaking
Maj. Gen. Boenisch presented French’s award in March, at a luncheon attended by Gov. Jim Geringer. Along with the certificate presented by Boenisch, French was also offered the opportunity to participate in the Boss Lift Operation to Anchorage, Alaska.
In her nomination, Buchmeier expressed her gratitude for French’s support of her role in the reserves and said he sees the training she receives as a benefit for Buchmeier’s growth in her state position as well.
“If all supervisors were like mine, we might have a lot more state employees as members of the armed forces. I think it’s a win/win situation,” she said.
Buchmeier, of the 302nd Aeromedical Staging Squadron, U.S. Air Force Reserves, recently received a promotion from assistant superintendent to superintendent of nursing services.
She manages a personnel staff of 56, assuring their training, their professional military education, and coordinates their annual tour consisting of two weeks of job training in individual job specifications. During her years with the reserves, her annual tour assignments have taken her across the United States, Hawaii and Japan.
During Operation Desert Storm, Buchmeier was activated to the Royal Air Force Waddington in England. She has 15 years with USAFR, joining her unit at Peterson A.F.B. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The seminar provided skill updates and gave the attendees a chance to talk with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officials. One concern was the affect of the pending cancellation of the weekly print version of the Official Gazette: Patents on Archiving. Future issues will be provided only on CD-ROM and on the World Wide Web.
