Iverson begins term as MPLA president

  • SHERIDAN — Debbie Iverson, library director at Sheridan College, has taken the seat as the president of the Mountain Plains Library Association (MPLA).

Iverson has already served one year as vice president of the 12-state regional library association and will serve an additional year beyond this year as past president of this 800 member group.

Iverson assumed her responsibilities at the end of the annual conference, which was held in Phoenix, Ariz. MPLA rotates through its 12 member states holding conferences jointly with state associations.

As president, Iverson will spend time conducting the business of the organization, as well as on the implementation, of MPLA’s five-year long-range plan. The chief focus of the long-range plan is the education and continuing education of librarians, the recruitment of new people to the field, and the migration of activities as an association onto a technical platform, which will make work more efficient and effective and accessible.

Iverson has been a member of MPLA for more than 20 years and looks forward to the opportunity now available to her to serve the organization.

“Mountain Plains Library Association is just the right mix of geographic accessibility and programming sophistication for me and for many who belong to this association,” she said.

“We’re a large enough group to be able to bring in national-level speakers but a small enough group, so we can frequently know each other by first name.”

The MPLA Website is at http://www.usd.edu/mpla/.
