Patent literature is a hidden resource not only for scientific and technical information but genealogical and historical information as well. The U.S. Patent Collection represents a huge body of primary source material spanning the history of the nation from 1790 to present. From dating an antique to finding an ancestor to studying the history of an invention, there are many ways to use the historical data found in U.S. patents.
